Left alone in his bed, Jérôme the little frog hears strange and scary sounds. ‘Daddy, Daddy, wake up! There is someone sitting under my bed…’ What is this scritch-scratch-dip-clapote noise? Mum lets Jérôme get into his parents’ bed and Dad helps the mystery reveal itself and fear disappear.

The internationally acclaimed Kitty Crowther (1970) is a Belgian artist of English-Swedish extraction who writes in French and Flemish. She has published some 35 picture-books, the most popular of which also include Scritch Scratch Dip Clapote! (2002). The artist is an expert of lines and mood; while she tends to depict a familiar environment that makes sense to the reader, Crowther always allows something mysterious and serious sneak into her picture-books.
